Short description of class: Acting Out for the Camera with Shanessa Sweeney is a class that teaches the fundamentals of acting on screen. It is for the novice actor or seasoned thespian who desire a broadened scope of their abilities by delving into the ins and outs of camera work. This class teaches acting techniques specific for the camera as well as how to have proper professional etiquette for the film industry and a plethora of other imperatives. Each week provides in depth ways to perform on camera. In addition to the lessons given throughout the 5 week period, students will walk away with an audition tape ready for submission to any agency or casting website requiring to see them. 

Instructor Name: Shanessa Sweeney

Shanessa Sweeney is a professional actor, spoken word artist and writer who has also moonlighted as an arts educator. Originally from Dayton, OH, Shanessa has performed on some of the most prolific stages across the country including The Oregon Shakespeare Festival as a Special Guest Artist and Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. She has been recognized nationally and regionally for her strong, unapologetic and creative approach to the spoken word genre. Winning such honors as "The Last Poet Standing" poetry competition produced by The Signature Theatre in Dayton and being one of the original members of the underground creative movement, Ritualistas. Her career in film began early with being cast as the pivotal character, Cassandra in indie hit Rustin where she was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress award in the Pasadena Film Festival (Method Festival). After filming "The Rosa Parks Story" starring Angela Bassett, Shanessa took a hiatus from film to focus on her studies and raise her family. Once out of her hiatus, she came back to film with a vengeance landing spots in national commercials for Roto-Rooter and Native Deodorant and several regional commercials. She can be seen in Netflix's original movie, Point Blank starring Anthony Mackie and Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden and Netflix original series, Mindhunter. Her most recent project, Swan Song is projected to be an indie hit at all the major independent film outlets and festivals. 

Shanessa is a proud alumnus of Alabama State University where she earned her BA in Theatre Arts and she earned her MFA in Acting from Brandeis University. She is a member of the Screen Actor's Guild (SAG-AFTRA) and it illustrious organization Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. However, of all of the accomplishments and amazing highs Shanessa has obtained along her journey, the highest achievement ever bestowed upon her was motherhood. She is the proud mother of "two dope souls who chose to come back to Earth to bless the world".
